![]() Not that Infinite will need that much help acquiring players, but it’s easy to imagine how perfectly it would have worked out if Bungie blasted Destiny players with a dose of nostalgia with themed armor or special exotics pulled from Halo, quite literally the day before the new entry came out. Granted, I know 343 has their hands totally full with the myriad of spinning plates that is Halo Infinite, but the timing of this could have worked out perfectly as cross-promotion, as now, we have a super awkward situation of the Bungie Anniversary event, without any Halo content, launching the day before Halo Infinite. And with Xbox’s Phil Spencer a die-hard Destiny fan, you can do the math as to what might have been the obstacle here. The Anniversary thing? I know that this was not Bungie’s call, as they would have been obviously happy to do a Halo crossover in Destiny. Or maybe Microsoft simply didn’t offer them enough money this time around, and they thought The Witch Queen was high profile enough to demand a higher price than last time. If Bungie say, saw not enough player acquisition on Xbox and not enough microtransaction/seasonal spending from those players who got Beyond Light for free, maybe the decision was made that it wasn’t worth it to do another Game Pass run for Witch Queen. Outriders, for instance, seemed to cite a Game Pass launch as one of the reasons the game hasn’t made back its money in sales yet.įor Destiny? That’s unclear, but if Beyond Light on Game Pass was some massive success for both parties, you would imagine it would have continued for Witch Queen. While we know Game Pass can and has boosted the sales of some games, for others, it’s been a little murkier. ![]() The Game Pass issue might be a seldom addressed discussion that…maybe Game Pass is not the right choice for everyone.
